WHAT WE'RE DOING

The State Affairs Committee of the Texas House of Representatives does not want your voice heard in support of House Bill 1359, the Texas Independence Referendum Act.  Chairman Chris Paddie is doing everything within his power to keep the public from seeing the level and depth of support for a vote on TEXIT. If the legislature won’t hold a public hearing, we will.

In conjunction with the bill’s author, State Representative Kyle Biedermann, the TNM is collecting video testimony from supporters of HB 1359 from now until May 9th.

During the week of May 10th, we will conduct a joint press conference at the Capitol and livestream all of the submitted testimony on Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and other livesteaming outlets.

This will be conducted just like a committee hearing and all of the videos will be compiled and submitted to every member of the Texas Legislature as well as the Governor and Lieutenant Governor.

Use this page to write and record your testimony. Let’s show the world what the legislators don’t want them to see.

"WE WANT A VOTE ON TEXIT!"

HOW TO STRUCTURE YOUR TESTIMONY

  • Three minutes MAXIMUM
  • Start with your first and last name.
  • Next, state what city you live in.
  • What is your personal identity? Examples: veteran, business owner, teacher, etc
  • Share at least one reason you want 1359 passed.
  • When a vote regarding Texit makes it to the general election ballot, what does the act of voting on an independent Texas mean to you?
  • How does it impact your life? What emotions does it stir inside?
  • How do you feel when a legislator makes the decision for you that YOU shouldn’t be allowed to vote on this when they choose not to co-author the bill or hold back its progress?
  • If a rep does not support this bill or halts the progress of it (not scheduling it for a hearing), how does that affect your actions in the next election? Would you only vote for a candidate who supports HB1359?
  • Closing message: what call(s) to action are you asking of your representatives: “Pass the bill!” “Co-author the bill!” “Stop obstructing the people’s right to vote!”
  • Write it and print it out. Read through it a few times.
