From Courtney Lewis in TNM MeWe Group: Donna Howard responded she will not support the bill. She doesn't think it is legal. I wrote her back and told her I felt differently and only asking for the opportunity for all Texans to voice their opinions. I would encourage everyone to flood her office with emails! -------------------------------------- Email response from Donna Howard: Thank you for reaching out to my office. I am fortunate to represent nearly 180,000 constituents and I appreciate opportunities to hear about and respond to specific interests and concerns. Many of my colleagues and I oppose HB 1359. I do not believe that secession is in the best interest of Texans, and historical and legal precedent clearly states that secession is illegal. If the bill did come up on the House floor, I plan to vote against it and any other efforts that advocate for Texas seceding. Please do not hesitate to reach out with any further questions or concerns. Sincerely, Donna Howard Texas State Representative (HD 48) -------------------------------------- I responded to her email stating that I understand that was her opinion but my views are different. I also reminded her that it wasn't about her opinion but that of all Texans and that she was free to vote her opinion in November. I politely asked her to give all Texans the opportunity to voice their opinions as well by supporting the bill and putting it on the ballot. | |||
2021-03-16 | Texas Independence Referendum Act | Received an email | Received the below email response Dear Mr. Lampert: Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me. Though I represent House District 48, I think it's important to consider the implications of our actions/votes for all Texans. I firmly oppose HB 1359. Given the volume of correspondence State Affairs elicits, I do hope you'll understand the time constraints mean I have to prioritize my constituents for a more detailed reply. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts with me. Sincerely, Donna Howard Texas State Representative (HD 48) |

2021-04-08 | Texas Independence Referendum Act | Personal visit | Not allowed in office. One person stood outside the door and listened. Got no indication of any willingness to even bring a vote on HB1359 |
2021-04-08 | Texas Independence Referendum Act | Personal visit | The staff was very rude, and told us that the bill is unconstitutional. The staff was not interested in hearing anything we had to say, and did not offer any response to questions. |
2021-04-08 | Texas Independence Referendum Act | Personal visit | Staffer said there were a lot of calls but complained that they weren’t in district. Staffer wouldn’t admit that Howard represents the entire state. She said a lot of calls were against the bill. Said her district doesn’t support it. |
2021-04-09 | Texas Independence Referendum Act | Personal visit | Totally against and unknowledgeable staff. |
2021-04-10 | Texas Independence Referendum Act | Personal visit | Met with staffer at Rep. Howard's capitol office. Staffer said that Howard would not support HB1359, that is was "unconstitutional" and "illegal". They had problems with the way the bill was written. |
