2021-03-19Texas Independence Referendum ActPhone conversationHad a great hour long plus conversation with Mayes this afternoon. we discussed several issues including the TIRA. Mayes stated he understands the purpose behind the bill and why it is needed, however he feels that since only so many bills can be passed each session he would like to focus on those that would bring more immediate relief and protection to Texans. He stated that that he is in no way opposed to HB1359 and will get with Rep. Beidermann to discuss it with him further and would consider signing on as a coauthor. He gave me his cell number and asked me to stay in touch and went so far as to work towards sitting down for lunch when he is back in the district to discuss issues and ways we could move forward in the advancement of Texas first. Overall at the end of the conversation he is on the fence with HB1539 but leaning towards supporting it.
2021-04-09Texas Independence Referendum ActPersonal visitSpoke with his office staff. They do not know where he stands on HB 1359, but they seemed sincere in telling him I stopped by and wanted his support for HB 1359.
2021-04-09Texas Independence Referendum ActPhone conversationMayes called me after my visit yesterday. He is not against HB 1359. His priority is protecting individual freedoms and he is focused on other bills right now that he feels are more pressing but if the bill makes it out of committee he will most likely support it.
