2023-03-27 | Texas Independence Referendum Act | Phone conversation | I was not given the name of the staff member that took my call. I asked to schedule a meeting this week and she said she would be able to help me. When I shared that I was calling regarding the TEXIT bill, she said that Rep. Lambert already spoke on the phone with a leader from the TNM and is not interested. He does not support this and feels that he hasn't received adequate answers to his questions about the consequences of Texas becoming independent. I reminded the staff member that we are talking about a vote to discuss Texas Independence, not a vote to make it happen. She said "Well, y'all have changed that a bit. But he still pledges his allegiance to the flag." He believes this is his Biblical oath to remain in the federal government. |
2023-03-27 | Texas Independence Referendum Act | Phone conversation | I spoke with a staff member (name wasn't given) and asked to schedule a meeting for later this week. She asked what this would be about and I shared that we were hoping to come in and answer questions about the TIRA bill. She then used a sharper tone and told me that Rep. Lambert had already spoken with leadership from the TNM and did not feel that he had received adequate answers to the questions regarding what would happen if Texas left the union. I reminded her that this bill was not about leaving, but about the opportunity to vote. She said "Well, y'all have changed that a bit, but his answer is still No." I said, "So you are saying the he doesn't support the right of the people to vote in their future." She replied saying that he says the pledge of allegiance every day and feels that it is his Biblical oath to protect the flag of these United States. |
