On August 1st, the State Board of Education (SBOE) will receive and take public testimony on a recommendation that the entire 4th Grade unit on Texas History be eliminated. Here’s what you can do about it.
The draft recommendation being considered would eliminate the 4th Grade unit of Texas History. Instead, our story and heritage would be “integrated” into a K-6 Social Studies program with US History and World History, reducing the time allocated to adequately instruct Texas children about their Texan roots. Rather than teaching our children to value Texas’ unique history, this curriculum would marginalize Texas History in the critical early education years. In short, there is a plan afoot to intentionally water down Texas History for our children.
If this sounds strangely familiar, it is. It’s the same strategy they used in an attempt to dilute the importance of the Battle of the Alamo in the Reimagine The Alamo plan.
We can’t let the story of Texas be marginalized or untold! Here is what YOU CAN DO.
Call the SBOE representatives before this meeting and give them the following information:
- If you are a parent or grandparent of a school-aged child or you are an educator, let them know. If not, you are still a taxpayer and deserve to be heard.
- State EMPHATICALLY that you are opposed to the plan to water down Texas History.
- State that you are in favor of keeping Texas History as a whole unit in the 4th Grade curriculum.
- Also, let them know you want more classroom time dedicated to teaching and promoting Texas History and Texas Patriotism in all grade levels.

The efforts to strip away the Texas spirit can only be overcome by each of us working harder than those who oppose our great nation. They are relentless. We must be unstoppable!
