Your Questions About The Legislative Process

Responses

  1. Make representatives understand that this will be a voting issue AND that there will be polling coming out soon. If those polls show a large majority of Texans support HB 1359, that’s the hammer and politicians love them some polls.

  2. I told Rep. Mayes Middleton’s staffer that I have only one issue I care about. TEXIT. A single issue voter means they can’t snow me with other issues. I also said I’ll donate money to his relelection campaign if he co-sponsors 1359. If he doesn’t, I’ll look around for someone to fund who will run against him. Pretty simple, pretty straight when you are a single issue voter.

  3. Oh, I forgot. I call his office on Monday, Weds. and Friday. Always polite. The staffer last Monday made the mistake of telling me he (Middleton) would call me back to discuss the bill with me. I was surprised when the staffer made this promise and of course, when I didn’t get a call back, I called again. Now, the staffer seemed a little embarrassed and he’s “helping” me get the call (I never asked for) scheduled. Tuesday and Thursday, I work on my state senator. Easy schedule to follow.

  4. An approach I have used is to pose the question: “Whether a politician is for or against TEXIT, why would anyone oppose HB 1359, as doing so has the same effect as telling their constituents that they do not have the right to have their voices heard on such an important issue?

  5. Called & wrote Rep Reggie Smith. A staffer actually spoke with me on the telephone, which bowled me over! He won’t make a commitment, which is a key indicator that a politician is a RINO. He may not believe me, but I told him that this is the single issue that determines whether we vote for him or not. I’ll be looking for a public commitment BEFORE the election. TX SEN Bob Hall won’t respond. Typically, he’s a reliable conservative, but this issue requires putting on his big boy pants, and he may not be up to the task. Abbott & Patrick, as usual, won’t respond.

  6. The matter of self-determination for Texas, must be decided by a VOTE of the Texas Electorate. For that to happen, we naturally must have our elected representatives in the Legislature support the TEXIT vote! HB 1359 will only come to fruition, if YOUR Representative and YOUR Senator vote accordingly. Together, we CAN make this happen.
