Why Should I Become a Delegate?
Delegates to the state convention are elegible to vote on the party’s platform that will be in effect until the next convention.
As a delegate you can help TNM add a plank to the party platform that specifically calls for a vote on Texit!
What is the Texit Vote resolution?
The resolution to be passed at the precinct and county/district conventions can ultimately lead to delegates of the state convention voting to adopt the following plank to the party platform:
“The ___ Party urges the Texas Legislature to pass a bill in its next session requiring a referendum in the 2023 general election for the people of Texas to decide on whether or not the State of Texas should reassert its status as an independent nation.”
How does the process work?
Republican Party of Texas Convention process:
Precinct Convention (date varies):
- First make sure you print and bring a copy of the Texit Vote resolution with you!
- In order to participate, you need to be affiliated with the party. This is done automatically if you voted in the party's primary or you can take an oath of affiliation. Please note you can only affiliate with one party each election cycle.
- Make sure you know your precinct number! It can be found on your voter registration card on the left hand side below your Gender and to the right of your Year of Birth. If you can't find your card you can look it up here: https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do
- The day and time could be scheduled between close of voting on March 1 to March 26 though they are most commonly held immediately after the polls close on March 1 or on Saturday, March 5. It should be posted at the polling site, it may be available on your county's website or social media group or you will need to contact your Republican County Chair.
- During the convention the two main tasks are to pass resolutions and elect delegates for the county/district convention.
- In the meeting business you will want to introduce and vote for the Texit Vote Resolution. (It is a good idea ot bring extra copies o that it will be easier for other delegates to read along. )
- You will also want to nominate yourself to be a delegate to the county/district convention. If there are more nominees that delegate slots, a vote will be required to see who can attend.
- What if you are the only person at your precinct convention? This can occur although it is rare. So start by making sure you are at the correct location for you precinct. Ask anyone around for help. The locations can vary and be hard to find sometimes. If you really are the only person present for the convention, you can fill out the convention minutes form and submit it to your county chair along with the resolution and your selection to be a delegate. If this situation occurs it is best to call the county chair while at the precinct convention and let them know.
